Dear Family and Friends:

We have received a few emails querying if we will be in the US (home) with our children for Christmas.  Sorry for not making that very clear, but....no......all our children are coming HOME to Mombasa, Kenya to celebrate Christmas together.

Again, many thanks and blessings upon all of you.

Beckie

David writing now:

When I was a little discouraged in the beginning of this testing process I felt I might not make it so, the other day I told my worker to start making me a wooden box. Beckie was so nice to butt in and say ”No, George we don’t want to waste any of that good wood. We’ll just throw him over into the Quarry behind our house and throw a little dirt on top of him. We will not even have to dig a hole.” Wow, that is how we bury our dogs…..that is my Beckie. So encouraging. Pray for this lady, ok.

Love you guys,

David

PS: BUT it is so nice to have a wife that understands the medical scene here in Africa. Beckie is working with many of the doctors with her Breast Cancer Awareness & she has been a tremendous blessing in arranging appointments and often, I have benefitted by being pushed to the front of the line with the words, “Oh you are Beckie’s Husband.”  I am blessed to have a wife and children that call and say “Dad we are praying for you right now”. Not only personal family but I am so blessed to receive emails from friends like you  with an encouraging Word.  Well, I have a real peace that it is all going to be OK. I want to be like Paul and be able to say, “I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also them love his appearing.” Every breath that I take makes me more aware of a God who is in control of our every move.

We have received several emails from friends who desire to send a one time gift to help with the finances and some may like to set up an automatic monthly offering so here is how it can be sent with tax deductible receipts for your gifts.

Update on David # 3

From: Beckie Smith [mailto:rjs0591@yahoo.com]
Sent: Friday, December 09, 2011 9:06 PM
To: David Smith
Subject: Update on David # 3

Dear Family and Friends:

We just got back this afternoon from Nairobi where David had undergone a Myocardial Perfusion (MPI) or Nuclear Stress Test.  This test involves a radioactive tracer to determine blood flow to the heart muscles, revealing any significant blockages in the arteries that supply the heart with blood.

The results of this test indicated at least one area of restricted or diminished blood supply (I believe they said on the left side) and wouldn't rule out another on the right, but it did not indicate a blockage.  The complete and detailed report was not ready at the time we left Nairobi, but the Cardiologists agreed that an angiogram would need to be done at some point in time to confirm the exact location or locations of the diminished flow under stress.  Thus the diagnosis remains 'stable angina'!

However, they said there was no immediate necessity for the angiogram, but could be scheduled after the first of the year.  They've told David to continue his heart meds, watch his diet, mild exercise but avoid a lot of exertion.  Please pray with us for wisdom in timing, location, and procedure as we know the Lord has a plan to provide the 'right' solutions for David.

Thank each of you for praying and for SO many encouraging and uplifting words, and also for the guidance from those of you in the medical profession.  We have experienced the strength and peace of the Lord during all of this which we know is a direct answer to the many prayers on our behalf!

Our children are gathering together at home over Christmas week.....the first time for ALL of us in several years and we are looking forward to being together....there will be 18 of us in total.....and yes....it will be wall to wall accommodations!  WE THANK THE LORD FOR OUR FAMILY!!!

May the Lord richly bless each of you with His mercy, truth, and light.

Beckie

PS Please continue to also pray with us for finances as our missions accounts today shows a balance of $186.37 and we are running under budget of almost $2000 monthly. Any special offering would help to keep us in the black. We believe God is the supplier of all our needs. Send us an email if you would like to help and we will supply you with the information of where you can send the offering.

Update on David....

From: Beckie Smith [mailto:rjs0591@yahoo.com]

Subject: Update on David....

Dear family and friends:

Sorry that it seems long since we've communicated an update, but it's actually taken a while to get the information needed, and here it is.  The short version is that David was diagnosed with 'stable angina' that can be controlled and altered by medicine, diet, and lifestyle changes.  Thank you all SO MUCH for praying, as we were the recipients of peace, hope, and strength during all of the procedures.

For those of you who are interested, the more detailed version follows:

Early Tuesday morning David and I flew up to Nairobi for a scheduled angiogram.  We arrived at the hospital around 8:30 to begin the procedure of being admitted.  As so often happens, the reports that were guaranteed to have been sent to the Cardiologist had never arrived and there was real confusion as to what we were going to be able to do.  David and I sat in an outpatient room singing the chorus "In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God".....we then moved to the cardiac clinic and where we were 5:30 pm.

We were able to get a medical report (not the pictures) emailed straight and putting all the info together the doctors of the cardiac clinic decided not to do an angiogram.  They did a coronary calcium counter and a stress echo from which they diagnosed David with stable angina, treatable with meds, diet and lifestyle changes.  He will have to return to the clinic in Nairobi in a few days to have a Thallium scan for them to have a clearer idea of blood flow in the heart during exertion.

The good news is that there is no imminent danger to David....the bad news is that due to David's family history and cholesterol readings, he'll need to change his eating habits and will be on some meds.

Thank you all for praying during this time.....we felt such peace and strength as a result, and believe that the Lord provided a 'warning' for David in regards to his health!  I know that with David's health efforts and the Lord's touch everything will be just fine!!

Blessings,

Beckie

Special Prayer for David

From: Beckie (Guynes) Smith [mailto:rjs0591@yahoo.com]
Sent: Wednesday, November 23, 2011 8:13 AM

Dear family and friends:

Within the last few days, we have hit a new 'bump' in the road of life.  David has been experiencing some pretty severe indigestion along with central chest pain and breathlessness after exertion.  It has been off and on over a period of time, but in the past few days has intensified to the point where he's been willing to see a doctor.

He's had an EKG, Echo, and a stress test done.  The EKG showed some slight abnormalities, Echo was inconsequential, but the stress test definitely indicates a problem, which concurs with the EKG.  A Cardiologist here in Mombasa has recommended David travel to Nairobi for an Angiogram to determine if, where, and extent of any blockage.....this we are planning to do on Tuesday.  We will make any other decisions once the results from the Angiogram are determined.

We would appreciate your praying with us for the Lord's wisdom, direction, and touch.....we are confident that HE knows the 'ins' and the 'outs' and will work everything to good!

Blessings,

Beckie and David

Beckie

Report: Thank you for praying for the Good News Meetings this past week.

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Mombasa, Kenya!

Our hearts are rejoicing over the many nationals that have been touch through the ministry of Roger Hoagland & his team. The team of 10 arrived and went straight to work with the medical team the next morning. I know some had jet lag in the afternoon but they kept on going till the Good News meetings that started at 4pm daily for 8 days straight. Different team members preached in the evenings and all did well.

I appreciate the way that Roger uses his team members to help get the African Children together and they did a wonderful job in forming a choir in a short time.  The $5000 that was sent ahead helped us to be on the property , start the process of cleaning the plot and placing the tent and digging the toilet block for the team before the team arrived. It was a lot of work getting the platform ready and the tent repaired to go on the property but the Lord blessed in a great way. On the Medical side the $1500 helped us to order the meds 3 weeks early and they barely arrived on time from Nairobi. We were able to treat 728 nationals and many of these prayed the sinners prayer. Some of the team members went out witnessing while the others worked the med camp in the mornings. Roger again was out there on the streets witnessing and going hut to hut with nationals and other team members.

Dr. Jaime Montalvo was so pleasant and good working with our African people. His nurse Aleah Bickett was so efficient & they worked well together. The assistants were also so good. Annette & her son Matthew the 10 year old supplied the meds. Matthew prayed around the alters with many of the children & adults. They even thought he was a Doctor because he had the uniform.

The team ministered in two schools and several prayed the sinners prayer. Who knows what may come to some of these Muslim students and Teachers.

Thanks again for praying for the Kentucky team for they were a great blessing to our people here at the coast. It was great to take Roger back last Sunday to Pastor Job’s church and see how the church has grown. This is the church that we had made a circle and claimed the area for the new church the first time he came 11years ago. It is the same area where the boundaries are lined with tall trees at this time. God is still answering prayers & the church is growing.

When we get to heaven it will be great to see all the souls that have come to the Lord as we have worked together for his purpose.

Blessings,

David & Beckie Smith

Missionaries in Kenya, E. Africa

PS: This Sunday after the team left: Fire in the tent!

Yes, God moved and we had a real live fire. At the end of the service the young couple came forward for prayer with their two twin girls about 1 year old. They had bands around their arms and around their waist where the witchdoctor had planted them on these beautiful little African girls.

The parents wanted us to cut them off and burn them so we took a hugh machete and cut them off and made a fire to burn the charms. Praise the Lord! God is working overtime. Keep praying. Something happens when we pray that would not have happened if we had not prayed.

SMS message from my neighbor - A Live lepard sighted 3 blocks from our home in Mombasa!

I thought it was a April fools joke when I received this sms message from our neighbor last night. Then I called him and said it is two hours before April fool and you are kidding me right. He said no it was seen by guards at the Mombasa Academy and might be headed our way to the old quarry behind our house and we need to check our dogs if they start to bark. When I went out of my office to go into the house you bet I did look around before I left the office. I have heard stories that Cape Buffalo used to be in this area in the 1950’s but this is the first time I have heard of a Leopard in the city area of Mombasa.

I could see death in his eyes!

Before I went to the court I had prayed God please make me an example to many of these young people that might not know you.

It was about 6:30 in the evening this past week and the lights came on at the volley ball court. I saw one of the young men I was playing go over to the light pole bend over to pick his drink up off the ground and he grabbed hold of the metal light pole. As he bent over I saw his eyes as if it he was a dead man. I knew instantly what had happened because I had felt the shock by just touching the pole two months before. I had reported it to the hotel but no one did anything.

Now he was grounded to the light pole and the ground. Others around also saw what was happening but no one was doing anything. It was like a flash that the training I had some years ago came back to me. Do not hold on to him. I was also barefoot and sweating like him. If I grab him I would also be stuck to the pole. He was going to die. What can I do? Then I thought if I hit his leg that is in the air maybe I would not take to much of current and he would be release. As I hit him the 240 volts went through me like a freight train to my hand and jarred my heart and numbed both my feet. Thank God it worked and Marcus was released and he rolled over on the ground but he was  sore from the jolt. His leg was sore from where the  voltage went through and his eyes were blood shot. He laid there for some time and he said several times thank you for saving my life. After a while the doctor came & checked his blood pressure and they said it was high. Someone hit me on the back to say well done and when they did they got a charge. Guess I still had a little voltage in my body. The bottom of my toes are still a little sore but I am thankful Marcus is alive today. I talked to Marcus latter to tell him that he could be in eternity NOW. When we pray something will happen that would not have happened if we had not prayed.

Thanks for your prayers,

David D. Smith

YWAM attacked in Athi River

YWAM Athi River Mourns Loss of Missionary

26/02/2011 12:30 pm

At around 1am on Friday, 25th February, armed robbers broke into a property owned by the Youth With A Mission (YWAM) team in Athi River, Kenya, 50 km outside of Nairobi.

In the attack, 36-year old Ebel Kremer, a Dutch national, was shot and killed. His wife Lora was assaulted during the attack, which took place in their home on the property. Their two children were present, but unharmed. A night watchman was also injured, and is now recovering.

The Kremers have been volunteers with Youth With A Mission in Kenya since February 2008. The YWAM centre in Athi River runs Christian training schools and a preschool in addition to their focus on caring for local orphaned children. “Homes for Hope and Healing” has been providing community-based care for orphans and Ebel was leading a project called the Maanzoni Children’s Village which aimed to merge with this effort to include a village of 8 homes which would accommodate foster families caring for up to 12 children each. Karin Kea Sued, the leader of the YWAM Athi River center until very recently, says it is too early to determine what will happen to the plans for expansion. “Ebel was overseeing the building of the second of the eight homes,” she said. “We were waiting for the homes to be completed before accepting more children.”

The YWAM property in Athi River accommodates 25 resident volunteers and approximately 50 other people, including students and visitors were also on the 70 acre property at the time of the attack.

The incident is being investigated as a robbery. The police are conducting extensive inquiries and have increased security in the area. YWAM has also engaged additional security.

Lora Kremer and her children are being cared for by friends in Nairobi and are preparing to return to Holland, where the funeral will be held, later this week.

Karin Kea Sued expressed gratitude on behalf of Lora Kremer and the YWAM community in Athi River for the prayers being said for them around the world. She says, "Our hearts are hurting as we are all in shock and disbelief that Ebel has been taken from us so suddenly, and in such a cruel and heartless manner. We have lost a fellow missionary and friend who beamed with energy and determination serving the One we all know to give perfect peace, comfort and eternal life. Our prayers and sympathy remain with Lora and their families in Holland."
