Dear friends & family,

Beckie has just arrivied in the USA from Kenya:

We ask for your prayers concerning Beckie's dad, Dr Delmer Guynes(88). He is facing a challenging heart procedure on Monday, 6th March. His spirits are quite low, and we ask that you pray for a physical, as well as an emotional touch and an uplift in his spirit! Thank you for praying and believing with our family.

Merry Christmas from Africa 2016

It's hard to believe that 2016 is coming to a close.  This has been a busy year for us as we've almost split the year living in both Kenya and USA.  We arrived back from deputation the 2nd of December, and have been in the process of picking up where we left off, except that things are never static, so we're having to discover what and when to "pick up".

Our KAG pastors and churches seem to be thriving….God is blessing and adding to the church those who come to salvation. There is a strong sense of the soon return of our Lord and an urgency to be found faithful and prepared when He does. This week we attended a Christmas Concert at one of our sister churches and it was special to listen to beautiful Christmas hymns, songs and carols.

We are empty nesters this Christmas, as we were last year.  Plans were in the works for our eldest son Kevin, Miriam and family to join us for Christmas, but due to some logistical issues, that has not been possible. Our 2nd son Kent, Michelle and family are in California, were they now are serving the Lord; our daughter Kimbra, Nick and family are in our house in Texas in the middle of their deputational cycle, and our youngest daughter Krista, Caleb and family are in Burundi where they minister.

I wonder if God the Father missed the presence (in heaven) of HIs son Jesus during those 30+ years that He walked among us as the Son of Man.  The birth of His Son, which we celebrate at Christmas, must have been heart wrenching, especially being cognizant of the purpose and culmination of those years.  But, His sacrifice became our joy, our peace, our salvation…..and that is why we are here….to share that wonderful news of the Son of God to those who sit in darkness.

Isaiah 65:1 (NIRV) "The Lord says, "I made myself known to those who were not asking for me. I was found by those who were not trying to find me. I spoke to a nation that did not pray to me. "Here I am," I said, "Here I am." We are here to be a part of the Lord's revelation process to those who don't pray to Him, don't seek Him, and don't call on Him!

We are grateful for your financial and material support which enables us to be a part of the harvest in this part of the world!

May your 2016 Christmas season be full of HIS presence and may your 2017 New Year be propitious of the favor and blessings of God!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from David and Beckie Smith

BA air flight delayed for Kenyad

Dear Family and Friends,

This morning we were closing up the last of 6 bags in preparation for our flight when I opened my emails to find that the flight had been delayed by several hours, which would cause us to miss our connections for all ongoing flights. We could have been discouraged but then I was reminded of the African man who was late to work crossing the Likoni Ferry to the mainland and was he was so upset that he did not make the boat and  yelled at the captain 'YOU ARE MAKING ME LATE TO WORK.". After only a few minutes he was so happy he did not make the connection because all of the sudden he saw the boat turn over as the people all shifted to the other side and over 100 people drowned in the ocean.

Sometimes we don't understand why things happen the way they do but we have to understand that our God is in complete control. One thing I know is that I received several calls today from pastors and friends saying  they needed some information for some water well projects and signed monthly faith commitment forms for $100. I'm aware that this might not have happened if we were not delayed by one DAY.

Again we want to THANK YOU for helping us with your prayers and your support as we traveled the past 4 months on this short furlough. WE serve a great big wonderful Lord who came to die for our sins and the sins of many that have not heard that Jesus is the answer to their problems.

May God continue to meet your every need.

Love from your friends,

David & Beckie Smith

Merry Christmas!

Dear family & friends, far and near:

Beckie and I want to wish you a WONDERFUL Christmas and a New Year full of God's favor!

No matter what our circumstance or situation, because Jesus came in simplicity and humility, leaving the grandeur of His infinite Kingdom, choosing to identify with the very humanity He created, we can experience the love, joy, and peace He came to bring!

"For my eyes have seen Your salvation which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, a light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel."

Luke 2:30-32

"I have come that they might have life and have it more abundantly."

John 10:10b

Thank you for spiritual and financial support as we fulfill His call to share the "light to bring revelation to the Gentiles" to those who have not yet experienced, nor have much access to HIS light!

Blessings,

David and Beckie

48 reported Killed in night raid on MPEKETONI! Please continue to pray for the coastal region of Kenya!

Police battle gunmen in Mpeketoni attack

In Summary

  • Inspector General David Kimaiyo stated that they were yet to be furnished with details of the situation but confirmed the attack.
  • “We have run into the bushes fearing for our lives but we are more worried about our children in the boarding school in town,” said Mrs Martha Mutigi.

Explosion and gun fire rent the air since 8pm Sunday as police battled unknown attackers in Mpeketoni area of Lamu.

Mpeketoni Police Station, two hotels and a petrol station were among those attacked, witnesses told the Nation.

Military spokesman Major Emmanuel Chirchir on his twitter account said attackers in 2 Nissan matatus entered Mpeketoni and started shooting, adding that surveillance aircraft was already airborne.

Residents said they were fleeing the area into the nearby bushes to take cover as police continue to battle unknown attackers.

“We have run into the bushes fearing for our lives but we are more worried about our children in the boarding school in town,” said Mrs Martha Mutigi an area resident.

Inspector General David Kimaiyo stated that they were yet to be furnished with details of the situation but confirmed the attack.

“We do not have full information on the incident and we are still trying to reach our officers at the moment,” he told the Nation in a phone interview.

Residents said Breeze View Hotel and Taweel restaurant are also affected as bellowing smoke was seen around their locations.

Sporadic gun fire and explosions spreading panic among residents with the police seemingly unable to contain  the situation.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

When I heard of the attach from my worker George I then called our District Supt. Joshua and he told me that he had heard from our Pastor Zechariah in Mpeketoni & he and his family were able to get into the bush when the gunfire started. I then called the District Presbyter James because I knew he had family in Mpeketoni. He said the towers for cell phone were hit but he did receive word by the orange network that his family was all ok. The reports came that there were over 50 unknown people who started killing all the men and pushing the women aside as they rode into town. The last time I was in Mpeketoni I stayed at the Breeze Way hotel. This  was burnt and many were shot & killed there watching the world cup. We have not heard yet if we have lost any of our members of the church. Please continue to pray for the situation in Kenya. Beckie & I appreciate you lifting us up before the Father and we both have a peace of God’s protection.

The Open Door Project - EMARTI VILLAGE

Open Door Project --Emarti Massai Village

A few days ago I woke up at 3:30 am thinking about the open door. I had been talking to our E. Africa director the night before about the entrance to the Massai's water hole. It had large thorn bushes encircling the water hole, which was covered with yellow & green interesting particles floating on top.

This is the only place in this area to get water for drinking, bathing  & cooking.

The reason for the hedge of thorn bushes, with only a single entrance, was to keep the wild animals and cattle from entering and spoiling the water by body waste. It was a way to control their good 'clean' water.

As I woke up this morning the little song I remember singing as a kid was going over in my mind. "You can't go over it , you can't go under it, you can't go around it, you must come in at the door." This door or entrance to the water hole was the only one way in.  However, they had also stacked logs at the door. The Massai were going over with great ease and they waited to see if this old missionary was able to crawl over. Yep, I made it but it took me a little longer than some of the others and that's when I saw where they had drawn the water for our tea.

Jesus talks about the door in the Holy Book. He said no one can come to the Father except through Jesus. He is the door to eternal life. Jesus said he is standing there waiting for us to step though the open door. Can you help us walk though this open door? The chief has given us a word of welcome to come help his people.

The first stage: The Emarti Village needs a water well. This is a great opportunity to reach this village by providing a bore hole costing about $5000 in order to give them physical water, clean water that will save people from dying early. Then we can help them with spiritual water when we bring the Word to the village by giving Bibles and gospel tracts in their language. As one of the pastors said, "We can bring the Word but it also takes the Spirit to change the heart."  May God give us wisdom to reach these Massai in this village of Emarti.

The second stage: A place to worship. A Tabernacle will cost about $6000.

How can you help? First you can pray. Then you can give, with the assurance that God loves a cheerful giver. Send to: Assemblies of God World Missions

Pray for the Kentucky Team. They are coming in May to do evangelism and conduct medical camps. Pray that the rain will not hinder the opportunity of going into this area. Pray for wisdom as we walk through this open door.

Blessings,

David & Beckie Smith

Christmas pictures :) & Happy New Year 2014

**********************************

Dear family and friends,

It's hard to believe that Christmas, 2013 was just 'yesterday' and we're looking at the year 2013 being 'yesterday' in the next few days.

We have SO many things to thank the Lord for as we look back over the days and months of 2013.  We spent part of this year in the United States, on the second half of our itineration/deputation, and it was wonderful seeing so many of you, sharing with believers what God is doing in our part of the world and what we are believing God for in this coming year of 2014.

Having the birth of our 9th grandchild William Ray Fader, to our youngest daughter Krista and her husband Caleb, occur in December certainly makes the details of Christ's birth more poignant.  However, Christ who came in humility as a babe, will come again as the majestic King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Everything points to the fact that the time for His return is near yet there is still much to be done.  We see and hear the disarray our world is in and the tragedy that seems to abound in every place, however, behind the scenes God is working, accomplishing His purposes and people from all nations, tribes and tongues are coming to find Jesus as Lord and Savior. Matt 4:16 says, "The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned."

Our prayer is that until He comes we would be faithful to point and lead those in darkness to the Babe/King, the Redeemer of all mankind!

Thank you for all you do to enable us to fulfill His calling.....we are very cognizant of the fact that without all of you our work would be much more difficult.

Blessings for a wonderful 2014.  MARANATHA!!

New bundle of Joy! Dec. 13th 2013

Dear Family and Friends

Merry Christmas!

Good News! William Ray Fader. 7lbs6oz. 20.5in :)

Parents: Kaleb & Krista Fader ( daughter who lives in Chicago) This make #9 grandkid now.

WOW! More pictures to come in a few days.

Beckie was able to be there for the birth and help Krista.

I was able to have a great Christmas dinner at the oldest British club in Kenya, but a little disappointed when they came out with the cold turkey they had cooked the night before and serve it cold from the fridge.

Well we must be thankful in all things. God is Good.

Intercession needed....

Dear friends:

This morning, we were given some concerning information pertaining to the East African Coast.  A pastor, Suleiman Abdul* told us that he was contacted by a person who tracks terrorist chatter. He warned the pastor to take extra care because he, along with other pastors who chose to "come out from among them and be separate", have been targeted.  According to this person, thousands of shillings have been offered as awards to persons who will take it upon themselves to take the lives of these followers of Jesus Christ.

We need intercessors to cover these men and their families in prayer.....that they might have strength, wisdom, peace and power in the Spirit as they faithfully serve the Lord in the ministries He has called them.....and that they may see an exponential harvest in their fields of labor.   May the enemy's desire to destroy and create havoc be stopped cold and that above all, the name of JESUS may receive glory and be lifted up!

We praise the Lord for the reports we've heard of mighty moves of God in outlying areas, and that always ratchets up the level of spiritual warfare.  PLEASE lift these brethren to the Lord during these difficult days.

Blessings,

David and Beckie

Calm has returned to Mombasa after Friday chaos ignited by the killing of a fiery Muslim preacher Sheikh Ibrahim Umar Rogo and three others on Thursday night.

Mombasa County police boss Robert Kitur said normalcy had returned and residents were going on with their daily activities in Majengo and Kisauni, areas that were worst hit by the protests that saw four people die.

“We are back to normal life but we are not taking chances,” Mr Kitur told the Nation on phone.

Contingents of anti-riot officers are keeping vigil around Masjid Musa mosque in Majengo, the epicentre of the violent riots.

Mombasa Deputy Governor Hazel Katana called for peace and peaceful co-existence between Muslim and Christian in the coastal city.

She said failure by police to take proactive measures led to the torching of the Salvation Army Worship Centre.

“We need all places of worship including mosques and churches to be properly secured by our security agencies,” she said.

Businesses opened on Saturday in the Central Business District.

Public transport vehicles were back on the road.

In Summary

  • Mombasa Deputy Governor Hazel Katana urges peace and peaceful co-existence between Muslim and Christian in the coastal city.

On a personal note:

Beckie & I returned to Kenya on September  22, 2013 after a year of deputation in USA. God has been so good to allow us to return to AFRICA where he has called us. Beckie is back in full swing with the breast cancer awareness for the month of October even though some of the activities have been cancelled due to the unrest in the country.  In November Beckie will go for a few weeks to Chicago for the birth of our youngest daughter Krista first child. This will make it #9 grandchildren in the clan. Wow, we are really becoming AFRICAN.

David has met with many of the pastors and in the Baraza (monthly Pastor’s meeting ) has found out that we now have 63 churches here in the coastal region.  Praise God for the continual growth along the coast of Kenya. In the attachment above is a picture of the Dziripe church that is needing our help of $6,000 for a roof. The rains have started and they have been working on this church to get it up this far. If you feel you can help please send to class 46 Dziripe church. Please see the information below for the account # and donation instructions.

This week we have planned for former friend & missionary, Oscar Johnson to come and minister to our pastors and wives. Please pray for a special move of the Spirit.  With all the problems that have been going on in Kenya we thank God that the church has turned to prayer. We have heard that several prayer groups from different churches are walking the streets praying for peace to return and that the demonic forces of killings and riots will stop.

We are believing God for mighty things. This past furlough, as we have traveled, we have had several confirmations that this term in Kenya we will see many brought to the master. “If my people will humble themselves and pray”……  Prayer is the key. By God’s grace, may the Church stand strong and GROW in the face of persecution!
