       Merry Christmas 2009

The David and Beckie Smith family

Kevin, Miriam, Katie, Kaleb and Micah serving in Kenya.

Kent, Michelle, Wesley, Cory, & Tia returning soon to Rwanda.

Kimbra, Nick, Lexxi and Ethan Stuva, serving in Tanzania.

Krista, going in January to Mozambique helping aids children.

As 2009 draws to a close, the David Smith family sends to all of you best wishes for a wonderful Christmas season as we remember together the reason for it all – the birth of our Savior. The prophet Isaiah promised a virgin born child who would be called “Immanuel” a Hebrew term meaning  “ God with us”. (Isa 7:14). We are so thankful we have the opportunity to work and serve in Africa. This is only possible because we have family and friends like you who prayerfully and financially support us.

May you have a wonderful holiday season as you celebrate the birth of the soon coming King.

Pictures & Newsletter Fall 2009

* Smith's Sherehe Fall 2009
Dear friends and supporters,
Greetings from pleasant Mombasa! Much of the year the weather in Mombasa is
hot with high humidity, but during this period, which is our winter, it
becomes very pleasant and we are enjoying the change.
We want to express our deepest thanks for your faithful support over the
years of our ministry in Kenya. This year we reached our 35th year of
service in Kenya, and we praise the Lord for the privilege of serving most
of those years in the coastal city of Mombasa.
When we arrived in Mombasa, there was one established church and one other
church plant. Today however, thanks to the blessings of the Lord, we have
near 50 churches and church plants. Many of our pastors work in difficult
situations, out in rural areas where there is little 'tangible' rewards for
their efforts. To those difficult situations we can add the opposition of
the largely Muslim population of the coastal region. However, God IS
faithful and His Word 'will not return void". Isaiah 55:11
These past few months have been busy with many varied involvements. We have
had our District Council (one of 32 districts all over Kenya), our District
Women Ministries Convention, and our national General Council in Nairobi.
David put up a tabernacle on the plot of land given by the Muslim husband of
a church member whom Beckie assisted in getting treatment for her advanced
breast cancer. David has also been preparing an office for Beckie's "Door
of Hope Counseling Service". We had been renting the house next door as an
office, but the owners returned to live in their house, and thus the need
for another facility. Thankfully, the office is nearly ready....just
waiting for the final finishing touches. During this time Beckie has been
'free-lancing" so she is grateful to have her own office again and have
easier access to her materials as she needs them.
Beckie is also gearing up for the annual Breast Cancer month in which
several activities are held.....the main one being a free screening camp.
This year their support group has assisted 5 ladies to receive treatment for
breast cancer and it is a wonderful opportunity to be the extended hands of
Jesus.

At the present time we are in the midst of the Islamic month of fasting
called Ramadhan. This has an observable effect in the coastal area, and
much of it not pleasant. Many shops are opened for fewer hours, the staff
are often lethargic, and patience runs very thin at times. At a mosque
behind our house, every morning from 5 to 5:30 am and every evening from
8:30 to 10:30 pm the Islamic prayers are chanted over external pa systems,
which sounds as though the speakers are actually IN our house. Pray with us
that instead of being frustrated and angry we will experience a greater
anguish over the futility of their chants and their lostness without Jesus.
Our prayer is that during this month, when many Muslims are seeking to draw
closer to God, the Lord will be gracious and open their eyes to see and
their hearts to be receptive of the truth.
An vital prayers request is that we can find & fund property for our
extension Bible School. We have $9000 of the $29,000 needed. Please send
offerings to our account below. Any amount will be helpful.
We pray Gods richest blessings upon you, and may each of you receive a new
vision and understanding of God's heart and His desire that "none should
perish". Again, we thank you for your prayerful and financial
support....without it our ability to fulfill God's call would be lessened!
Laborers together,
*Sherehe - Triumphant Rejoicing

David & Beckie Smith

Mom has gone to be with the Lord!

Dear Friends and Family,

This morning at 4:00 a.m. Mom (Evelyn Florence Arnold Smith) called me to help her get back into the bed. Yesterday was a little difficult for her as we had to give her morphine to ease the pain. This was only the

second day within this past week that she needed this level of pain medication. She was so blessed not to suffer as others have done with pancreatic cancer.

Mom went to be with the Lord at 4:20 a.m. in the arms of my dad and myself.  A few hours later my only sister, Sharon, arrived from Kansas with her husband Jerry.  Sharon had taken a four day trip to be with her family.  Dad is 94 and will greatly miss   Mom, as all of us will.    We are thankful for the prayers of God’s people as His grace has lifted and sustained us.

Blessings,

David D. Smith

P.S. Mom’s greatest desire was spreading the Good News of Jesus.  Memorials sent to Delwood Park Assemblies of God missions program would be greatly appreciated by her family in lieu of flowers.

A SPECIAL HAPPY THANKSGIVING MESSAGE TO YOU!

Dear Friends and Family,

THANKSGIVING, the day that we gather as families to appreciate each other and thank the Lord for His blessings and love. This Thanksgiving is especially meaningful as we have had time to spend with David’s parents who are both very unwell and are nearing their transition from this life to their home with the Lord.  We are thankful for all of you who have lifted us up in prayer these past few weeks.  Our plans are to return to Kenya on the 8th of December and we would appreciate your continued prayers as we minister in the coastal province of Kenya.   May the Lord richly bless each of you.

When the enemy comes the Lord will raise up a standard up against him! Prayer needed!

David & Beckie Smith

Mombasa, Kenya

East Africa

July 26, 2008

Dear friends and family,

"Where can we go to pray?"  The answer came, "Go pray in the prayer room." Then, when you do what they say and go in, they come running in to say that you cannot go in with your shoes on.  Aren't you thankful that as a Christian we can pray anywhere at anytime and God will hear us. Where are we? We are in Mombasa, Kenya at a Muslim Hospital where they have the best equipment to help someone whose kidneys are failing and blood pressure has dropped .  One of our pastors, by the name of Francis Ndoro (a former muslim) is dying unless the Lord intervenes and we need Christians to intercede with us for his life. Pastor Francis is doing a great work in Msambweni and God has been using him in this hard Muslim area. He is in ICU and the bill has gone up over 300,000/- equivalent to $5000 and rising daily. Our pastors in the coast have rallied together in prayer, fasting, & financial help but it is not enough. Some of our pastor may only receive a $25 a week to meet all their needs. So you can see this is a great need and they are thinking of taking out insurance for all our pastors even though that is going to be hard for them. At this time we are making an appeal for Pastor Francis and ask you to pray for Godʼs guidance. Francis is an overseer of several other pastors in his section.

As I speak on behalf of Francis this past week the enemy hit another of our pastor overseer Pastor Julius Kaman. He was very ill with diabetes and high blood pressure. The pastors & friends all rallied behind him with prayer and support and helped to get him out of the hospital and he is doing very well now. We thank God for his mighty power.

The third one this week has been the worker (Katana) at Beckieʼs door of hope ministry. The doctors say he has typhoid. He is doing much better today and should be back to work in a few days.

Many have been asking about my mother who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May and I will be traveling to USA this coming Monday July 28th to be with her for a period of time. At present she is doing some better. The pain has been in two areas and she has been taking some pain medication. We know that the scripture says that He sent his word and healed them. Nothing is impossible with God.

This has been a season of seeming attacks, so PLEASE continue to pray for all these needs and for Beckie as she remains in Africa as I travel on Monday.

God is faithful and we put our trust in Jesus.

Blessings,

David & Beckie Smith

Special Prayer request forDavid's mother Evelyn Smith (82)

Sending this again since some have said they did not receive.

 Dear Family & Friends,

Greetings from Mombasa!

This past Sunday we just completed the two tabernacles & medical camps with the team from The Oaks Fellowship Dallas, Texas. We had some great meetings and many came to the Lord.

For over a week now we have been getting reports that my mother was not doing well and last night the second test came in that confirmed that she has pancreatic cancer. We desire your prayers during the days ahead. I plan to travel as soon as I can confirm tickets.

Blessings,
